Rural residential FTTH access receives boost from Huber+Suhner

The new RESA Compact Closure (RESA CC) Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) solution by Huber+Suhner will boost its existing RESA portfolio to allow residents in rural areas to connect their homes faster than ever.
This latest addition to the RESA family is set to help accelerate the rollout of FTTH for individual properties in rural residential areas. Unique and flexible, this modular connectivity solution enables an easy installation alternative for carriers. The RESA CC is smaller and more compact than its cousin, the RESA Splice Closure (RESA SC), which also requires a slightly different rollout method. With RESA CC, the carrier saves both time and money, while the homeowner benefits from a fast and flexible fiber connection.

The installation process has been designed to be executed in a straightforward two-step approach: ‘homes passed plus’ and ‘homes connected’. The first stage involves the carrier pre-installing the RESA CC underground at the property edge. This is then followed by the carrier connecting it to the street cabinet using a duct bundle system. In the second stage, the subscriber, with the help of a local installer, connects the last few meters of the FTTH connection within the boundaries of their own property.
Using this two-step approach, the FTTH rollout efficiency is increased in two ways. Firstly, traditional civil engineering work is a very time-consuming process, as it requires large amounts of coordination with each homeowner. However, with RESA CC, the whole street can be deployed all at once. Furthermore, splicing is typically one of the most expensive aspects of an FTTH rollout, as this process requires the expertise of highly skilled labourers. Now, you only need to splice in one place, at the street cabinet, rather than at each individual property. These changes significantly reduce the amount of civil engineering work required and ultimately reduce costs, while freeing up time and resources for the carrier.
