December 12, 2023

Make Up Stars, the new talent show produced by RTVE Play in co-production with Rakuten TV and Mega TV, is looking for the next great make-up professional. The show, hosted by Pilar Rubio, premieres on RTVE Play on 19 December and on Rakuten TV, one of Europe’s leading streaming platforms, on December 31st.

Make Up Stars is a talent show that brings the universe of professional make-up and beauty closer to the viewer. The show, hosted by Pilar Rubio, features eight contestants who compete with the help of glitter, eye shadow and blusher to become the next best make-up professional. The production, born from an idea by Develovers, aims to discover the next best talent in the make-up and beauty industry, showcasing make-up as a form of artistic expression and always promoting the skill of the participants.

Alongside Pilar Rubio, the show’s team includes two leading figures from the make-up industry who will be permanent judges during the six episodes of Make Up Stars:

  • David Molina, Make-up artist internationally renowned for his collaborations with brands such as Dior, Versace and Givenchy. Stars such as Victoria Beckham, Ashton Kutcher, Maria Sharapova, Isabeli Fontana and Karolina Kurková are amongst his clients.
  • Camila Redondo, designer and influencer, who is one of the most influential voices in the world of beauty and makeup online.  She is the winner of the Idolo Award 2023 for the best beauty content creator and is behind the account Nobody is ugly.

The show’s director is Ainhoa Casado with more than 20 years of experience leading creative teams in television and generating innovative multiplatform content. She has been in charge of major entertainment formats such as ‘Operación Triunfo’, ‘Eurojunior’ and ‘Tú sí que vales’. She says of the project: “Make Up Stars is an explosion of colour, brightness and emotions. A total discovery of the magic and art behind make-up“.

Each episode will be dedicated to a specific facet of make-up – body painting, characterisation, editorial, drag, prosthetics and special effects – and will encourage participants to showcase their creativity and skills in different styles and techniques, with advice from top professionals. Viewers will be able to witness amazing transformations and learn about the latest trends in make-up.

Make Up Stars will feature guests such as Lola Lolita, Carmen Farala, Agoney and the Twin Melodies, who also sing the show’s theme tune. In each episode the contestants will have a masterclass led by some of the best make-up professionals such as Miss Claudia, Anna Cartes, David Martí and Dugarte. Leading make-up and hairdressing brands have agreed to provide materials for the tests.

At the end of the series, the most versatile candidate will win a stay in London and training at the make-up school of the Oscar-winning Christine Blundell.
