Sweden’s SSC orders with Ovzon

December 16, 2023

By Chris Forrester

Stockholm-based Ovzon has received an order from Swedish Space Corporation (SSC) for Ovzon’s SATCOM-as-a-Service, including Ovzon mobile satellite terminals — the service will be delivered during 2024 with the initial rollout to occur during Q1. The delivery of terminals will start immediately. The total order value amounts to 135 million Swedish Krona.

Ovzon’s latest satellite (Ovzon 3) is due for launch (“no earlier”) around December 22nd from Cape Canaveral by SpaceX.

Ovzon 3 has had a busy couple of years. Initially planned to be launched by SpaceX and with a launch date of Q4/2020. Not helped by Covid, the launch was switched to an Arianespace rocket for launch in 2021. That didn’t happen and in February 2023 the launch was switched back to SpaceX.

The SSC order follows a similar package from the US Department of Defense worth $3.1 million.

Ovzon 3 is equipped with high-powered steerable beams and a unique On-Board-Processor which the company claims will “forever change the way we think about Mobility, Performance and Resiliency”.

“This significant order strengthens our collaboration with SSC and emphasizes our joint focus on supporting Swedish government agencies. Having a strategic presence in space and being able to ensure reliable satellite communications is of critical importance for both security and the wider public infrastructure in today’s society,” said Per Norén, CEO, Ovzon.

Ovzon’s SATCOM-as-a-Service distinguishes itself in the market by its ability to support critical missions with assured connectivity that can transmit and receive large amounts of data by seamlessly integrating performance, mobility and resiliency.
