Football is for Everyone doc to premiere on TNT Sports 1

January 16, 2024

TNT Sports will premiere Football is for Everyone on January 30th on TNT Sports 1, a new documentary presented by Michael Owen which delves into the world of sight loss and football, providing an intimate and inspiring look at the England Partially Sighted Futsal Team as they geared up for the 2023 IBSA World Games.

The former England striker is joined by his son James who was diagnosed with Stargardt disease at the age of 8, a chronic eye condition that all but ended his dream of following in his father’s footsteps and becoming a pro footballer.

The documentary follows the pair as they seek to understand more about James’ condition through the lens of the England Partially Sighted Futsal Team. Working with the FA in association with EE, Michael and James were granted unprecedented access.  The film features candid interviews with the players and coaching staff, as they prepared for the IBSA World Games on home soil, offering a unique perspective on their training, camaraderie, and determination to overcome their various conditions.

The film was commissioned by TNT Sports and produced and directed by Mark Sharman, Theo Lee Ray and Isobel Williams.

Scott Young, Group SVP, Content, Production and Business Operations, WBD Sports Europe, said: “Football is for Everyone offers an intimate look at the obstacles many face to play the sport they love. It was a pleasure to work closely with Michael and James on this project, particularly as it shows how the beautiful game can bring people together and, hopefully, inspire more inclusivity and accessibility in football.”

Football is for Everyone premieres on TNT Sports 1 at 11pm on January 30th and will also be available on discovery+.
