Chile: Canal 13 extends Extreme E broadcast deal

April 18, 2024

Extreme E, the off-road electric racing championship, has announced that Chile’s Canal 13 has renewed its broadcast partnership with the series. This extension means that the Santiago-based commercial station will continue to deliver a comprehensive coverage package of Extreme E’s races. Viewers can expect a line-up that includes live race feeds, previews and magazine shows. The coverage will be presented in both English and Spanish.

With its fourth season underway, Extreme E has captivated global audiences by staging races in some of the planet’s most remote and environmentally impacted locations. By selecting venues affected by climate change, from the Atacama Desert to the Arctic, the championship aims to spark increased awareness and interest in pressing environmental issues among its viewers.

Central to the championship’s ethos is its unique viewing format. Races are staged without live spectators and instead broadcasted as two-hour programmes, a strategic move to minimise the championship’s carbon footprint. Additionally, race equipment is transported via sea on the floating centrepiece, S. Helena. Canal 13 will also feature exclusive behind-the-scenes content focusing on environmental issues, further aligning with Extreme E’s mission to promote awareness and action on environmental solutions.

Ali Russell, Managing Director, Extreme E, commented: “I’m thrilled that we will continue to bring our sport-for-purpose series to Canal 13’s digital audience in Chile. Our broadcast package has gained immense popularity since its inception, which is evident from our impressive audience numbers. With Canal 13 on our territories roster, we can continue to share not only the thrilling race action that Extreme E provides, but also the broader messages of our championship around electrification, environment and equality.”
