TVPlayer launches Community Channel

July 17, 2014

Community Channel, the only UK TV station dedicated to communities, charities and local stories, is the latest channel to launch on TVPlayer, the OTT platform operated by Simplestream.

The channel – owned and run by national charity Media Trust – broadcasts entertaining stories, inspiring series and pioneering documentaries. The channel helps to showcase the inspirational work of charities, new independent directors and community filmmakers through flagship series such as Brilliant Britain and London360.

Lewis Arthur, Platform Manager for TVPlayer, said that Community Channel was committed to increasing its content offering for its users and TVPlayer was excited that Community Channel was bringing its engaging content to the platform.

The extra viewers come at an exciting time for Community Channel. The Channel launched its ‘Do Something Brilliant’ campaign, funded by Big Lottery Fund, in February to celebrate the talented people and organisations across the United Kingdom doing brilliant things to make a big difference to the world around them.

Alex Kann, Director of Community Channel and Audience Engagement, described launching on TVPlayer as “a fantastic opportunity” for Community Channel to reach more viewers across broadcast, online, on-demand and streamed services. “The partnership will help more people engage with our Do Something Brilliant campaign funded by Big Lottery Fund and inspire them to make a difference in their community,” he added.

TVPlayer, which has received 700,000 downloads within six months of launching, is growing in popularity resulting from its extended channel offering. TVPlayer can be watched online at www.tvplayer.com and can be downloaded for free from the App Store, Google Play and the Amazon Appstore.erUK
