Chinese equipment manufacturer Huawei has completed the overhaul of the IT network infrastructure of Italian private broadcaster Mediaset as part of its future IPTV strategy.

Mediaset’s requirement was for a comprehensive replacement solution that would provide the server infrastructure, internet connectivity and storage for video content.

Huawei’s IP vertical solution is based on the CloudEngine 6800 series datacentre switches, which offer high-speed performance over 10 and 40 Gbits ports, while internet routing is provided by the NetEngine 40E Series Universal Service Router.

The video delivery infrastructure consists of a farm of 14 RH2288 servers and two OceanStor 9000 NAS scale-out storages split across two sites.

According to Mediaset, the Huawei solution, implemented by Mediapower for IT components and BT for IP components and network management, offered the best mix in terms of performance, scalability and reliability.

Mediaset produces and distributes both free-to-air and pay-TV content on multiple platforms.
