HD+, the encrypted high-definition service for Germany, is making progress. SES’s latest numbers to March 31st, say that it now has 1.1 million subscribers, up 158, 768 since December 31st (when the total stood at 944,933).
Expressed as a percentage this represents growth of 17 per cent during the quarter-year. The growth means that the subscriber base has doubled in the past year, from 513,207 as at March 31st last year, and an increase of 590, 494 during the past 12 months.
Viewers pay a “technical fee” of €50 a year in order to receive the HD+ signals. Viewers are allowed a 12 month free viewing period, and this total audience (that is paying subs and free viewers) now totals 2.89 million homes.
