O2, Netflix deal debuts in UK

June 15, 2018

Spain’s largest telco, Telefónica, has launched its global agreement with Netflix, signed last May, to offer the streaming service to UK subscribers.

Netflix has been integrated into Telefónica-owned O2 for free for up to 12 months. New and current O2 customers can receive a free subscription to the service for 8 to 12 months. O2 will increase the data capacity to improve the Netflix experience.

This is the first launch of its global strategy to integrate Netflix into Telefónica’s platforms in Europe and Latin America. In Spain, the service will be launched by the end of the year.

The deal came a few months after the two companies agreed to integrate the service in Movistar Plus in Spain. With the integration, subscribers will have access to all Netflix content automatically. Subscribers would not have to enter the Netflix platform as its content would be offered directly through Movistar Plus.

Telefónica operates in 17 countries worldwide, among them Brazil, Argentina, Peru, Chile, Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Uruguay and Mexico.
