Freesat has announced that David Thomas has joined the company as its new Head of Product. Thomas has a varied background and extensive experience in the communications and broadcast sector, having held positions with companies as diverse as Sky, Cellcast, Endemol and Atlas Mobile.
He joins Freesat from fintech start-up, Novastone Media, where he was also Head of Product, responsible for strategic vision and particularly the development of a web, iOS and Android app; as well as integrations with external public IM channels such as WhatsApp / WeChat and developing new features in areas including machine learning, AI, chat bots and data leakage protection.
Prior to Novastone, Thomas worked as a consultant at mobile web development specialist, Atlas Mobile, as well as working as a Product Lead at Sky, working with the interactive team to deliver multiple strategic projects and an on-going optimisation programme across all interactive services in the portfolio, ensuring a consistent customer-focused approach.
Thomas started his career in the operations department of international broadcaster, Cellcast PLC, where, over eight years, he moved from technician to VP – Services. In this role he was responsible for the successful promotion of interactive services from creation to promotion and ensuring that the company’s service offering was constantly developed across the range of brands and programs. Thomas also held the General Manager position for a division of the company concurrently, with responsibility for the optimal performance of a number of teams across the business.
