August 15, 2019

Sports Channel Network, the free to air AVoD channel available on Freeview and YouView, will stream highlights of the inaugural Scottish Women’s Tour cycling event in Scotland on August 25th as part of its strategy to become an accessible OTT destination for UK cycling fans.

The event, which took place last weekend, was won by Leah Thomas after a dramatic sprint finish in Edinburgh’s historic Holyrood Park. Contested by many of the top women’s teams in the world – plus the best of Great Britain and Scotland’s female cycling talent, and despite some weather challenges, celebrated women’s cycling across Scottish towns and villages along a 350km route.

Darren Clayton, of rights’ holder Zeus Events said: “It fills me with immense pride that we have been able to deliver the first ever Women’s Tour of Scotland. Together with our partners and investment from people like Event Scotland and Scottish Cycling, I am convinced this is just the start of the journey for this race and for women’s cycling in this country. We want to continue to inspire more generations of cycling fans and I truly believe we are on our way to doing that. To be able to broadcast this on SCN is great news and means we can showcase further the potential of this great event to sport fans.”

“There has been a lot of work behind the scenes by over many years to bring a race like this here,” said Scottish Cycling CEO Greg Burn. “What’s really exciting is that it will become an annual event – if we can embed that it’s about how clubs, communities and businesses get involved. We have an opportunity to make something unique.”

As part of a commitment to the sport of cycling, SCN also offers a UK free to air platform for the UCI’s premium cycling magazine InCycle.
