Eutelsat has signed up German telco Deutsche Telecom to distribute its Konnect broadband service from the end of 2021.
Both companies are also discussing an extension of their partnership in the future. Deutsche Telekom is already using Eutelsat capacity to provide telecommunications and disaster relief in the areas affected by the floods this summer.
Investment bank Exane/BNPP welcomed the deal, commenting: “This distribution agreement for Eutelsat Konnect (and probably for the upcoming Eutelsat VHTS) in Germany comes on top of Orange for France and TIM for Italy. Unlike for KA-SAT 10 years ago, Eutelsat has been able to get large European telcos onboard to distribute its new capacity. This bodes well for the commercial success of Eutelsat’s Fixed Broadband strategy. However, we continue to believe that the main driver of the share price is likely to be the newsflow on the recent takeover bid.”
