Gaumont UK acquires rights to The Mother

April 13, 2023

The rights to The Mother, a gripping new novel written by TM Logan, have been snapped up by Gaumont UK.  The UK arm of global production company Gaumont will develop the thriller as a returning drama series.

Famed for gritty narratives and seriously addictively storytelling, TM Logan’s The Mother is an adrenaline fuelled thriller, full of unpredictable twists. It starts from the shadows, as a woman attends her own funeral after serving ten years in jail for the murder of her husband. With two grieving sons in mourning, it’s evident she will stop at nothing to clear her name and reconnect with her children – but how far will she really go to get her family back?

Layered with mystery and suspense – and with a falsely accused female protagonist at the heart of the narrative set out to prove her innocence and gain revenge – The Mother will have audiences hooked.

The Mother author, TM Logan, said: “It was brilliant to hear from the team at Gaumont about their enthusiasm for this story and their vision for bringing it to the screen. They have such a fantastic track record and I’m absolutely delighted that they’ll be working on an adaptation of The Mother.”

Gaumont UK President and executive producer, Alison Jackson, said: “The Mother had me instantly fascinated.  A tantalising addictive read, with a brilliantly complex female protagonist, there is so much for us to explore with bringing this story to the screen.  It has all the hallmarks that we look for – bold, ambitious storytelling that has a uniquely British perspective, and most of all, is hugely entertaining.”

The deal was struck by Sheila David of Catapult Rights and Sarah Woolway for Gaumont and further expands Gaumont UK’s diverse slate of original content, which has also acquired the rights to Sixteen Horses, Dog Rose Dirt, and Dressed For War: The Story of Audrey Withers, Vogue editor extraordinaire from the Blitz to the Swinging Sixties. The drama series adaptation will be produced by Gaumont UK and executive produced by Alison Jackson. A writer is yet to be attached.

Most recently, Gaumont UK have completed Obsession, a four-part thriller for Netflix starring Richard Armitage, Charlie Murphy and Indira Varma, co-produced with Moonage Pictures.  Also for Netflix, an original movie written by Rowan Joffe and directed by Nour Wazzi as well as four-part thriller for Channel 5, For Her Sins.
