Mediapro services for European Games
July 7, 2023
Mediapro, in collaboration with Festival Group, was the host broadcaster for the European Games, which took place in Kraków (Poland), ending July 2. The games encompass 29 disciplines held in 26 venues. In order to deliver these comprehensive services, the group deployed a team of more than 500 broadcast professionals in Kraków, where it produced up to 750 hours of live coverage across the 12 days of competition. Mediapro will also be the official host broadcaster of the Pan American Games taking place in the Chilean capital Santiago in October. It is the first time that the same company has been commissioned to produce both events in the same year. The agility, availability and expertise of the group’s teams of broadcast professionals allow it to ensure optimal coverage of this year’s two most important multi-sport events.
Mediapro had 500 broadcast professionals, from various branches of the group, on the ground in Kraków operating 16 HD mobile units and more than 250 cameras, including 9 underwater cams, 8 crane cams, 2 Cablecams, 4 auto-tracking cams, 45 super slow motion cameras and 14 drones. The biggest deployment ” involving 90 professionals and 45 cameras ” was at the Silesian Stadium, in the city of Chorzow, where the athletics competition took place.
Mediapro was also responsible for the design, construction, fit-out and logistics of the International Broadcast Center (IBC). This 1,200 m2 facility was located at the Polish TV (TVP) premises in Kraków, and was where the signals that were distributed to 50 countries around the world, such as Germany, Argentina, Belgium, Brazil, Spain, France, Mexico, Switzerland, the UK, Turkey and Thailand, were received and managed. Each day, the group produced two 26-minute daily highlights summaries in English, as well as a five-minute clip which was distributed internationally.
The Organising Committee of the European Games Kraków-Małopolska 2023, which was responsible for the event, awarded the production contract for this international sporting event to Mediapro and its partner after reviewing multiple tenders. The organizers highly rated the experience of the group, which organises more than 15,000 live events annually around the world.
The European Games is an international multidisciplinary sports event organised by the European Olympic Committees in which athletes from 48 countries compete in a range of sports disciplines, including athletics, padel, artistic swimming, ski jumping, fencing, cycling and karate.
