Mediapro launching eSports OTT channel

October 3, 2018

From David Del Valle in Madrid

Spanish TV group Mediapro, owner of the football TV rights, is finalising the launch of a Spanish-speaking eSports OTT channel, similar to Amazon’s Twitch, which should go live before the end of 2018.

The channel will be dedicated to eSports, video games and live international events and tournaments (League of Legends, Clash Royale, Fortnite, CSGO, Call of Duty etc) and a la carte exclusive in-house content.

Initially, the OTT service will be free of charge, with premium content introduced at a later phase, with the goal of reaching 5 million users in five years.

Mediapro will distribute the advertising-funded channel on global TV platforms targeting a young audience aged 14-35 years who mostly consume digital content on their mobile phone. Also, Mediapro will launch a linear channel to be distributed by TV operators with most of the content from the OTT platform.

Mediapro is increasingly relying on eSports and video games to capture a young audience. The company already owns Fandroid that manages the Professional Videogames League (LVP) with operations in Spain, Mexico, Colombia, Argentine, Chile, Peru, and the UK with 20 million of unique users.
