Lockheed Martin opens satellite factory

Lockheed Martin (LM) has opened a new 20,000 sq ft production facility in Denver, Colorado, to manufacture small to medium-sized satellites.
The company says it is targeting producing up to 180 satellites annually. LM has a long record of producing larger satellites.
The new facility has six production lines with the first client lined up in the form of the US government’s Space Force’s Space Development Agency (SDA). LM earlier this year won a $700 million contract to supply 42 satellites for the SDA’s Transport Layer Tranche 1.
This batch is due to launch in late 2024.
The company says there’s new and growing demand for smaller satellites and are increasingly the preference across the industry.
