Mediapro host broadcaster for Pan American Games

November 10, 2023

The Corporation of the Santiago 2023 XIX Pan American Games has selected Mediapro as host broadcaster for the Chile 2023 Pan American and Parapan American Games. This is the second time in a row that Mediapro has been selected to be responsible for the production of this multi-sport event held between October 18th and November 5th at 29 different venues. This event is the largest sporting event in Latin America and the continent and is held every four years prior to the Olympic Games. The group’s experience in major live sports competitions, including the European Games, Mediterranean Games, FIBA Basketball World Cup and other major events including the Champions League final, was a decisive factor in the choice.

Mediapro produced and distributed more than 2,000 hours of live content for a potential audience of 200 million viewers via free-to-air signal, pay TV and digital channels. More than 200 broadcast professionals from Spain, Portugal and Argentina, together with another 500 Chilean broadcast professionals made it possible for Mediapro Chile to implement this major operation, which included several group companies in association with Chilean broadcast services company TVTel. The technical deployment included several control rooms using 4K technology, drones and state-of-the-art cameras, including ultra-slow-motion and underwater cameras, among others. The implementation of remote production controls has made it possible to reduce transporting heavy vehicles and additional support personnel, meaning a reduction in the carbon footprint in line with the sustainability practices and protocols established by the company. Mediapro also designed and managed the IBC, which began providing service to accredited journalists as early as the beginning of October.

The Pan American and Parapan American Games are an international multi-sport event, which this edition brought together more than 8,000 athletes, and which more than 1 million people followed the competitions live.
