Griselda debuts at Netflix #1

Griselda, the new limited series starring and executive produced by Sofía Vergara, topped Netflix’s English TV List in the week commencing January 22nd, debuting at #1 with 20.6 million views. The series, created by Eric Newman, directed by Andres Baiz and inspired by the life of notorious cartel boss Griselda Blanco, was #1 in 89 countries and the most watched title of the week.

Leave the World Behind, Sam Esmail’s apocalyptic thriller starring Julia Roberts, Ethan Hawke and Mahershala Ali, entered the Most Popular English Films List at #8 with 136.3 million views in its first 52 days on Netflix. Money Heist spin-off series BERLIN (Spain), which took second place on the Top 10 Non-English TV List (2.8 million views), also entered the Most Popular Non-English TV List at #10 with 50.1 million views in its first 31 days on Netflix. The franchise now holds four spots on the Most Popular List, also including Money Heist Parts 3, 4 and 5

Lift, starring Kevin Hart, spent its third week atop the English Films List with 17.4 million views. Kibwe Tavares and Daniel Kaluuya’s dystopian directorial debut The Kitchen took third place with 7.7 million views. Adam Sandler’s animated comedy Leo marked its tenth week on the list, clocking in at #10 with 2.9 million views. 

Action-adventure Badland Hunters (Korea) debuted at #1 on the Non-English Films List with 14.3 million views. Action drama Sixty Minutes (Germany) claimed second place with 13.5 million views. Best International Film Oscar nominee  Society of the Snow (Spain), from director J.A. Bayona, spent its fourth week on the list in third place with 10.6M views, taking its total views since release to 75 million. 

American Nightmare, the docuseries that investigates a case the press dubbed ‘the real-life Gone Girl,’ came in at #2 on the English TV List with 13 million views. Adaptations had another strong week on the list with Harlan Coben’s crime thriller Fool Me Once taking third place with 7.6 million views and family drama Boy Swallows Universe claiming seventh place with 1.7 million views. Making their list debuts were the second season of heartwarming docuseries Love on the Spectrum US at #4 (3 million views) and Kevin Smith’s animated comic book adaptation Masters of the Universe: Revolution at #9 (1.5 million views). Action drama The Brothers Sun took #6 (1.9 million views) in its fourth week on the list and My Life with the Walter Boys took #10 in its eighth week on the list (1.5 million views).

Limited mystery series The Bequeathed (Korea) rose to the top of the Non-English TV List with 3.1 million views. Two romantic dramas from Korea entered the list; Captivating the King at #7 (1.5 million views) and Doctor Slump at #9 (1.4 million views).
