Ateme transcoders integrate Verance Aspect Watermarking

February 27, 2024

Ateme, a specialist in video compression, delivery and streaming solutions with innovation at its core, and Verance, a watermarking platform that powers broadband features on broadcast television, have announced they have integrated Verance Aspect Watermarking within the audio chain of the Ateme TITAN transcoders. This integration enables wide distribution of NextGen Broadcast interactive experiences, offering broadcasters in North America the opportunity to dive into new business models, create additional personalized offerings and explore new monetisation opportunities.

Aspect is Verance’s implementation of the ATSC open watermarking standards. It launches broadcast applications by carrying metadata and triggers associated with NextGen Broadcast interactive broadcasting experiences through all distribution paths (including ATSC 1.0 and 3.0 over-the-air, cable/satellite and over-the-top services) to reach 100 per cent of connected televisions. Without the watermark, 80 per cent of US households are unable to take advantage of these capabilities.

The integration of Verance Aspect Watermarking within the TITAN audio chain enhances interactivity, exploiting the full potential of NextGen Broadcast with use cases such as the start-over function, sports betting, fantasy sports, personalised news & weather, targeted advertising and advanced emergency information.

“With more and more broadcasters deploying NextGen Broadcast, they want to see a return on their investment,” said Julien Mandel, Solution Marketing Senior Director, Contribution & Distribution Segment at Ateme. ”We are thrilled to be enabling new business models through interactive services and personalization, by combining Verance Aspect Watermarking with Ateme’s TITAN transcoders.”

Nil Shah, Verance CEO, added: “Verance is proud to partner with Ateme in integrating our Aspect Watermarking technology into its TITAN transcoders. This collaboration marks a significant milestone in delivering personalised and engaging content experiences to viewers while ensuring interoperability across all distribution paths. It empowers broadcasters with unparalleled opportunities to deliver personalised content, explore new revenue opportunities and embrace the transformative capabilities of NextGen TV.”
