Will Stephen Mulhern become one of the UK’s greatest presenters?
April 2, 2024
Stephen Mulhern got arguably the biggest deal of his career recently when he was asked to take over as host on Deal or No Deal. The rebooted game show is now on ITV, with the 46-year-old taking the reins from British television legend Noel Edmonds.
Mulhern has become a household favourite over the last decade, but now he has the chance to become one of the all-time greats. He will be hoping that Deal or No Deal goes on another long run.
Deal or No Deal Was a Massive Move for Mulhern
Deal or No Deal is an enormous global franchise that spans way beyond the television show. Slingo Deal or No Deal is a prime example of how widespread the brand is, and the slot and bingo hybrid game gives players a new way to experience the show’s themes. There are other Deal or No Deal casino games as well, helping the brand to reach a widely diverse audience. This means that a great number of people from varying demographics will soon hear about Mulhern as the new host.
Replacing Edmonds is no easy feat either, and being offered the job as host on the fresh version of Deal or No Deal was a huge move for Mulhern. Edmonds has been on the airwaves in the UK for more than five decades and has presented some of the most prestigious shows. Anyone following in his footsteps on Deal or No Deal, therefore, has the potential to go on to enjoy an illustrious career as well.
Hoping For a Long Run of Rebooted Series
Edmonds was already a well-established screen legend when Deal or No Deal first started in 2005, but there’s no doubt that the series helped elevate him to national treasure. Mulhern will be hoping that his run at the forefront of the box opening epic will run as long as Edmonds’ did.
The original Deal or No Deal was on Channel 4 for more than 10 years between 2005 and 2016 and ran for an incredible 2,985 episodes. The revival has only offered up 20 episodes so far, so it has a long way to go to catch up. However, it has received a positive response for its revamped format, and there’s every chance that it could be a mainstay on UK television sets for many years. It even has a celebrity edition to mix things up and offer viewers something fresh.
What Else Has Mulhern Worked On?
Mulhern has headed plenty of amazing television shows already, including Catchphrase, Britain’s Got More Talent, and In for a Penny. His other major project is Dancing on Ice, which he started working on in 2022 and became the main co-presenter in 2024. It’s clear that Mulhern is adding as many strings to his bow as possible, and this is impressive for a presenter of his age.
Mulhern easily has a chance of becoming one of the UK’s most beloved television presenters over the next decade. With the massive franchise of Deal or No Deal behind him, he could be unstoppable.
