Extreme E appoints W Communications
May 16, 2024
Racing series Extreme E has appointed multi-award-winning creative communications agency, W Communications, as its new official communications agency. As part of its remit, W will work closely with Extreme E’s in-house teams to support the championship’s ongoing communications strategy and to grow the profile of the sport, which is currently in its fourth season.
The action on the track is among the most competitive in motorsport and boasts incredible support, with iconic names such as Nico Rosberg, McLaren, Jenson Button, and Carlos Sainz Sr. all team owners.
Off-track, the series races in areas directly affected by climate change, with drivers and teams participating in legacy projects that aim to leave the location in a more sustainable state than when they arrived. Previous race locations have included Senegal, Chile, Greenland and Scotland. W will help showcase these incredible stories to get more people involved in like-minded climate action.
Ali Russell, Managing Director of Extreme E, said: “We are delighted to welcome W Communications to Extreme E in what is sure to be a pivotal year in the series’ history. Preparations are gathering pace as we build up to the launch of Extreme H, the world’s first hydrogen off-road racing championship, which marks a landmark moment in motorsport. Alongside the racing action and our environmental Legacy Programmes, there are plenty of stories to showcase across Extreme E and we look forward to working with W to bring those to a wider audience.”
2024 represents a transformative year for the sport-for-purpose motorsport series as it transitions from electric-powered vehicles to becoming the world’s first hydrogen off-road racing series, Extreme H, a pioneering move not just in motorsport but across sport globally.
It’s not just from a sustainability perspective where Extreme E is leading the way. Gender equality is at the heart of its 50/50 split of male and female drivers, including the likes of Mikaela Åhlin-Kottulinsky, Cristina Gutiérrez and Catie Munnings. This offers an incredible opportunity to grow the profile of the sport and its athletes through the lens of tackling important social issues.
W’s ongoing support will include the reveal of the series’ ground-breaking challenger car ahead of Extreme H’s launch, as well as on-the-ground support for the four remaining events in the Season 4 calendar, three of which will take place in Sardinia, Italy, and Phoenix, USA.
Warren Johnson, W Communications Founder and CEO, said: “Having followed Extreme E’s story closely since its inception, we couldn’t be more revved up to be part of an incredible and inspiring vision at such an exciting time for the sport.”
