Speedcast boosts Starlink to enterprise/maritime

Speedcast used the Paris World Satellite Business Week to announce its “market-leading partnership” to bring Starlink’s high-speed, low-latency LEO connectivity service to the enterprise and maritime markets.

Speedcast will deploy Elon Musk’s Starlink system and connectivity as part of a multi-orbit, multi-pathway managed service for customers across the Enterprise, Commercial and Passenger Maritime, and Energy markets. This new partnership gives Speedcast customers access to more communications pathways, adding Starlink to the company’s toolkit that it leverages to deliver the highest levels of performance and operational efficiency to make ubiquitous connectivity a reality for remote operations, according to a statement.

Speedcast says it already operates the largest technology agnostic networks in the world. With strategic partnerships now in place with both Starlink and OneWeb, (announced in March 2022) Speedcast can seamlessly integrate these latest LEO offerings as added connectivity pathways, joining GEO, MEO and 4G/5G for high-demand applications. The non-geostationary orbit (NGSO) constellations will be integrated through Speedcast’s own SIGMA network management platform and leading SD-WAN solutions.

Since Starlink’s Maritime service went live, Speedcast has supported customer trials to demonstrate the capabilities of Starlink as part of a seamlessly integrated service. Earlier this year, Speedcast integrated Starlink as part of a comprehensive communications solution, making 100 percent uptime a reality with hybrid connectivity via next-generation SD-WAN. The successful sea trial for the world’s largest expedition cruise company is just one example in which Speedcast is integrating multiple connectivity paths to deliver ubiquitous connectivity for customers, states Speedcast.

SpaceX’s Starlink broadband-by-satellite is the world’s first and largest satellite constellation using a low Earth orbit to deliver broadband internet capable of supporting streaming, video calls and more. The constellation of thousands of satellites orbits the planet much closer to Earth, making latency significantly lower.
