Austin joins Hearst Media Production Group

Gail Austin has joined Hearst Media Production Group (HMPG) as senior producer on the HMPG weekly show Matter of Fact with Soledad O’Brien. She reports to Rita Aleman, the show’s executive producer.
Matter of Fact with Soledad O’Brien is America’s #1 nationally syndicated public affairs news magazine, averaging more than 1.1 million weekly viewers season-to-date for the 2022-2023 TV season. HMPG and Sony Pictures Television, the show’s distributor, recently announced the show has been renewed for two more seasons in syndication, where it reaches 95 per cent of US TV households.
Austin joins HMPG from National Public Radio (NPR), where she served for six years, most recently as deputy executive producer of NPR’s flagship show, Morning Edition, and NPR’s popular podcast, Up First. The move marks a return for Austin to Hearst, where she served for six years, most recently as a producer at Hearst Television’s Washington, D.C., News Bureau, before joining NPR. She began her broadcast journalism career at Hearst’s WGAL-TV, the local market news leader in the Pennsylvania capital region of Lancaster-Harrisburg-York.
HMPG’s current programme portfolio comprises more than 30 series and hundreds of hours of content annually on leading broadcast networks and station groups and on connected TV and streaming platforms. It has a library of more than 4,000 hours of programming and its content can be found in 97 countries.
