Trilithic offers next gen EAS solution for IPAWS CAP compliance

October 21, 2011

Trilithic has announced the availability of a next gen Emergency Alert System (EAS) solution that gives cable, IPTV and broadcast systems everything they need to comply with the new Common Alerting Protocol (CAP) guidelines and deliver emergency alerts from the Integrated Public Alert and Warning System (IPAWS).

A next-generation, CAP-compliant EAS platform, the new EASyCAP Encoder/Decoder Emergency Mangagement System from Trilithic can receive all of the required EAS alert messages, including local access messages for franchise agreements, and control all of the network devices necessary to deliver the messages to system subscribers. The integrated, one-box solution is designed specifically for next generation enhancements, providing an open architecture and common interfaces, such as secure web servers and SNMP, to provide an expandable platform that simplifies the process of adding new capabilities that may be required as CAP standards and FEMA requirements continue to evolve.

The CAP compliance solution includes EASyCAP software, which allows system operators who already have EASy series systems to add next-generation alert capabilities and become CAP-compliant at a minimal cost. Now integrated in the Next gen platform, EASyCAP Encoder/Decoder can also supply CAP messages to multiple EASy series encoder/decoder units simultaneously and can receive CAP alerts from multiple sources, such as TCP and the IPAWS Atom Feed. They also directly support governor must carry alerts.

The EASyCAP encoder/decoder provides a unique benefit to system operators as they prepare for the CAP mandate. The technology allows for the rapid integration of new CAP sources as they become available.

The FCC’s deadline for system operators to comply with the new CAP guidelines, originally Sept. 29, 2011, has been moved to June 30, 2012, giving the operators additional time to put a CAP-compliant solution in place.

Trilithic’s EASyCAP received an impressive 4.5 diamonds out of a possible 5 diamonds in BTR’s 2011 Diamond Technology Review. One judge commented, “Trilithic has stepped up to CAP requirements providing ways to deal with classic EAS gear and handle the newest digital architectures deployed in the field. EASyCAP allows compliance with recent CAP rules while providing an integrated and scalable solution to complex legacy systems in place now. Abundant interfaces are addressed and provide flexibility in handling what is likely to be deployed for mobile & IPTV situations in the near future.”

Another Judge noted, “EASyCAP offers an elegant solution for CAP compliance.”
