June 9, 2021

The HBL Pakistan Super League has entered into an partnership with short form video platform TikTok. During the Abu Dhabi-leg of the HBL PSL 6, TikTok users will get an opportunity to engage and generate content on the platform.

The HBL PSL 6 resumes at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium on June 9th with a match between Islamabad United and Lahore Qalandars. This will be the 15th fixture of the ongoing edition and the tournament will conclude on June 24th. As part of this partnership, the HBL PSL will be working with TikTok to develop content for TikTok users along with promoting the contributions of the existing fan base that follows the league.

Babar Hamid, the PCB Commercial Director and Head of HBL PSL, said: “The PCB and the HBL Pakistan Super League have always endeavoured to explore partnerships and collaborations that can help engage with our fans all around the world. TikTok is one of the most popular platforms these days and it has taken the world by a storm which makes this partnership very exciting for us. Pakistan has a big TikTok following and majority of the followers are passionate about cricket. The popularity of the HBL PSL can be gauged by the overwhelming response that our HBL PSL 6 anthem Groove Mera received on TikTok. We look forward to the start of an exciting journey with TikTok with the start of the Abu Dhabi-leg on 9 June. Our entire staff along with the franchises and all stakeholders have worked really hard and I am sure the efforts will be rewarded with quality cricket action at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium.”

HBL PSL has also recently announced an arrangement with Facebook to bring the live action to fans globally for the  remaining matches of the HBL PSL 6.

Facebook Paid Online Events will help the Board monetise the matches by requiring fans to pay a nominal one-time sign-up fee to access the live broadcast. The broadcast can then be watched anytime.

Policy Lead Pakistan for Facebook, Sehar Tariq, commented: “We are excited to partner for HBL PSL this year. The league has gained popularity around the world. With support from PCB we have been able to connect HBL PSL’s global fan base to view their matches around the world while also supporting PCB to build a new revenue stream and support their business. We hope that Paid Online Events will enhance the experience of the HBL PSL for all cricket lovers across the world.”

PCB Head of Broadcast Rights and Business Development, Shoaib Naveed, added: “Providing fans ease of access and enhancing the viewership of Pakistan cricket globally is a main feature of our broadcast strategy and part of the PCB overall Digital Transformation aims. This partnership for the remaining matches of HBL PSL 6 with Facebook has provided us with a unique platform, and it’s great to be partnering with the largest social media platform in the world.”

The online events will be accessible globally except in the US, Canada, Caribbean, United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, Sub Saharan Africa, the Middle East, Afghanistan, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal and Maldives; where the PCB has existing rights agreements with international media partners.
