A study by the financial comparison company money.co.uk has revealed the most expensive (and the cheapest) film franchises for superfans.

Harry Potter is crowned the most expensive film franchise for those looking to be wizarding world superfans. The study revealed that the ultimate superfan collection will set Harry Potter fans back a staggering £467.98, on average. With eight movies spanning across 10 years, there’s more to being a Potter Head than just buying the movie tickets, from realistic costumes to rare signed movie posters, there’s plenty for fans to add to their collections.

Ranking as the second most expensive film franchise to support is The Godfather, with the iconic American crime films setting superfans back £448.62 on average. Whilst it was first released in the 1970s it’s still a firm favourite today and the collectable pieces from the franchise can cost a pretty penny. Fans of this franchise could pay out an average of £382 for a signed movie poster, making this exclusive addition the costliest part of the collection. The famous films are also available in limited edition box sets, an enviable collectors item that any Godfather fan would love to add to their superfan stash.

Another pre-Millennium film featuring in the top 10 most expensive movie franchises is Back to the Future, ranking in third place. First released in 1985 but recently adapted into an on-stage musical in London’s West End, superfans in 2022 are willing to fork out nearly £356 to be the ultimate fan. Meanwhile, Superman (first released in 1951) is fourth on the list, and Lord of the Rings is fifth.

The study also revealed the cheapest franchise to support, which crowned Shrek, the animated family favourite, as the most purse-friendly, setting superfans back £60.46 on average. Whilst the box set for Shrek might cost more than other franchises (including Austin Powers and Rocky) figurines from the Dreamworks franchise and signed posters are among some of the cheapest overall, as fans can get a signed movie poster of their own for just £7.28.

The second cheapest franchise for fans to spend their money on collectable items is Die Hard, with a collection costing fans £75.30 on average. The Twilight Saga is the third-most affordable franchise for fans to buy into, averaging at just £75.30 in total. Spanning over five movies, the films had fans going wild as they followed along with the love story between Edward and Bella. For fans looking to get their hands on some of the movie memorabilia, the box set is the most affordable element costing just £3.50.

Star Wars also made the top 10 most affordable film franchises costing fans £109.17, making it the sixth-most affordable. The most affordable element of the Star Wars superfan collection is the T-shirt costing just £11.90 on average, so it could be the perfect starting point for any Star Wars superfan.
