WWE Superstars talk binging, video games and more

The WWE Superstars have descended upon London for two night of hard-hitting action at The O2. First up are the Smackdown TV tapings, followed by the entertaniment behemoth’s first Premium Live Event to be held in England in 31 years – Money in the Bank.
Advanced-Television spoke with a number of superstars about their TV and gaming habit, and more, ahead of the hellacious weekend.
ZELINA VEGA
What are you binging right now?
I’m watching JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure at the moment. I was actually watching it on the plane over here and it was giving some really great ideas for a cosplay entrance! Hopefully that’s something I can do in the future.
Is Netflix your go-to streaming service?
I watch Netflix, but Crunchyroll is the streaming service I use the most – for all the anime.
What’s favourite movie starring The Rock?
Fighting with my Family – because I was in it!
What’s the last thing you saw at the cinema?
Evil Dead Rise. It was gross, but in a good way.
So, you’re a big gamer?
Yep, I use my Switch all the time. I don’t have the new Zelda yet though. At the moment I’m playing Pokémon.

What are you binging right now?
Oh I just watched the new ARNOLD documentary on Netflix. That was great. I watched the first episode of FUBAR [also starring Arnold Schwarzenegger] but I haven’t got back to it yet.
I’ll tell you a really guilty pleasure of mine, something that I always put on when I get back to a hotel, and that’s Catfish. That show is crazy, I just can’t believe it! People who have been in relationships for years just do the most awful things! But I really enjoy watching that.
Do you binge content on a plane?
I might watch a movie. Usually I play games on my phone, like maybe Solitaire – which I know makes it sound like I’m using Windows 95 or something. Oh, and I also like playing 2048, you know that game? Where you have to add the blocks together? It’s probably meant for little kids, but I play that a lot.
What’s your favourite movie starring The Rock?
Oh man, I’m just gonna play it safe and say all of them.
What’s the last movie you saw at the cinema?
It’s been a while since to the cinema. I think it was probably Ghostbusters: Afterlife.
What match of event have you watched the most on the WWE Network?
Anything I’m in! Can I say that?
When you play a WWE 2K video game, which character do you play as?
I’ve been in it 2 years in a row now! So I play as me, baby.

What are you binging right now?
I’m watching Jury Duty. It’s a great concept.
Do you tend to binge content on a plane?
No. I sleep!
What’s your favourite movie starring The Rock?
Oh that’s a tough one, there’s so many… what’s the one he did with Kevin Hart recently? Central Intellignce? That was fun.
What’s your favourite British TV show?
Oh this is going to sound really bad, especially because we’re in the UK, but I love The US Office, it’s one of my favourite shows, but I’ve never watched the Britsh version and I know I really need to.
What was the last movie you saw at the cinema?
John Wick 4. It was incredible.

A little.

Macho Man!
How does performing in front of UK crowd tend to differ from a US crowd?
Oh, we really feel the love here. UK audiences have so much respect for what we do. And they’re much louder! I always looked forward to seeing what chants they come up with. The way something catches on and spreads through the arena so fast is always so amazing!

What are you binging right now?
Last night I started the new season of Black Mirror. Have you watched it? I watched the episode Joan is Awful, it was crazy! Can you imagine if that really happened!
Do you tend to binge content on a plane?
I was late coming to it, but man, it overtook my life, and that show was Mr Robot! I watched it every chance I got. And when it ended it left such a huge hole in me! I felt like my life was over!
What’s your favourite movie starring The Rock?
I like them all! … I like that one on the tower; on the skyscraper. Is it just called Skyscraper?! Yes, I think it is! I liked that one because he wasn’t playing a big action hero. He was playing a man with a disability and it’s a bit different. He just wants to save his daughter.
Who would play you in a movie?
The Rock! Haha, can you imagine? I think people would be like “Hey, I don’t remember Santos being that tall”.
Are you a gamer?
Just a little.
Which character do you play as in a WWE 2K video game?
Me! Always me.

What are you binging right now?
I’ve been watching Siren on Prime Video. I like that is has a strong female cast
Is Prime Video your go-to streaming service?
I tend to bounce around a bit. I use a few.
What’s your favourite movie starring The Rock?
I’m going to go really old school and say The Scorpion King.
What’s the last thing you watched at the cinema?
Oh, it was really scary [stops to think]… it was a big horror movie… Oh, it was Evil Dead! How could I forgot that?! It was awesome.
What’s your favourite British TV show?
Red Dwarf.
What match or event have have you watched the most on the WWE Network?
Oooh, probably The Undertaker vs Shawn Michales; both of their WrestleMania matches. I also watch a lot of old NXT stuff, the stuff from the black and gold era. It has some great matches and storylines.
Do you tend to binge content when you’re travelling?
No, I’m a big gamer. When I’m on a plane, I’m usually playing games.

Create-a-character! I made Lotara from Warhammer.
Ahead of this weekend’s action, how does performing in front of UK crowd tend to differ from a US crowd?
The crowds are usually much rowdier here. It’s really a whole different vibe.
