SIAE protects Sky Italia content

June 14, 2024

SIAE and Sky Italia have signed an agreement to protect operators who use Sky Business subscriptions in their premises, in full compliance with the law, strengthening control activity in bars, restaurants and public places.

The protection of content in all its forms and the related return on investments are objectives that SIAE, the Italian Society of Authors and Publishers, has protected since 1882.

With this agreement, SIAE officials will be responsible for ascertaining, in some areas of the country, cases of illicit use of the ‘residential’ season ticket in public places and any forms of piracy. In particular, SIAE officials will verify that, for the viewing of live sporting events – including Serie A, Champions League, ATP Tennis, Formula 1, MotoGP – in bars, restaurants and other commercial establishments, a Sky Business subscription is used .

Matteo Fedeli, General Director of SIAE, commented: “ The agreement between SIAE and Sky is part of the activities to combat any form of intellectual property violation, a phenomenon that not only damages individual publishing entities but the entire entertainment sector, of sport and culture. It is also with partnerships of this type that copyright is defended and quality content is encouraged. ”

Andrea Duilio, CEO of Sky Italia, added: “Respect for laws and rules is an indispensable value in order to protect the investments made and defend the entire supply chain from any form of unfair competition. This agreement with SIAE allows us to strengthen the activity against the illicit transmission of our exclusive contents to protect all operators who operate in full compliance with the law”.
