France Télévisions to trial 8K at Roland-Garros

Following previous 4K trials, French public service broadcaster France Télévisions will this year trial 8K broadcasts during its coverage of the French tennis open at Roland-Garros.
The 8K live broadcast will not be available to TV viewers, but footage will be delivered on giant screens on site in Paris, as well as in France Télévisions’ RG lab, using a Sharp 8K display, confirming what was first announced by technological innovation director Bernard Fontaine at GPC-IFA in Rome in April 2018.
Another digital innovation will be the production of VR daily TV show E-Mag 360°, that will go into the backstage of the tennis open. The main matches will also be broadcast live and in VR 360 on new France TV sport app.
From May 21st to June 10th, France Télévisions channels and app will retransmit a total of 836 matches, including all the playoff games taking place from May 21st to 25th.
