UK subscription-free satellite TV service Freesat has expanded its editorial offering to support the busy Christmas TV schedule with the launch of two new Christmas genres in its Showcase service. Showcase takes a human-touch approach to curate a selection of shows hand-picked by Freesat’s in-house editorial team. TV viewers can get recommendations for what to watch for the week ahead and what’s available on demand through Showcase online, or through Freesat’s award-winning Freetime service, and also using the Freesat iOS and Android apps.

New Christmas-themed categories, ‘Festive Specials’ and ‘Festive Films’, have been added to the Showcase ‘On TV’ section of the service, highlighting the very best of free TV every day of the Christmas holidays. In the ‘On-Demand’ section a ‘Festive Specials’ category has been added which gives viewers access to programmes they might have missed.

In ‘Festive Specials’ viewers can expect to find must-watch programmes such as The John Bishop Christmas Show and Strictly Christmas Special, as well as popular family programmes such as Doctor Who, while films such as The Muppet Christmas Carol and The Snowman will feature in the ‘Festive Films’ category.

Paul Gilshan, Freesat’s Director of Marketing and Communications, said the editorial team had worked hard to curate an exciting schedule of programme recommendations. “Showcase will help families plan their Christmas viewing and with two new genre categories, it’s now even easier to discover,” he advised.
