Red Star Belgrade signs with Recast

July 27, 2021

Rugby fans globally will now be able to tune into Recast to watch exclusive content from Rugby League Club, Red Star Belgrade.

The Serbian team has chosen to go direct-to-consumer with the OTT solution in a bid to transform its digital and video consumption strategy, maximising their revenue from clips, highlights and match day content.  The Rugby Club are the latest organisation to join the OTT provider, Recast, which maximises revenue generation through fan viewership whilst ensuring fans have affordable access to the content they want to watch through their unique monetisation model.

Red Star Belgrade will exclusively offer fans across the globe access to staff and player interviews, Play by Play analysis and extended ‘Mini Match’ highlights via the OTT service. As well as exclusive content the Rugby League Club will offer fans early exclusive access to highlights, compilations, short-form content, stats and interviews up to 48hr before going live on any other platform.

Red Star Belgrade Managing Director, Colin Kleyweg, commented: “Our goals with Recast start with the Red Star Belgrade Rugby League Club but will expand in the near future to bigger projects in rugby league. We are really pleased to be working with Recast and believe this is the platform which is the future of sports highlights, content and broadcast promotion.”

“Being able to offer a global distribution solution to clubs like Red Star Belgrade is what Recast was made for,” added Recast’s Founder and CEO, Andy Meikle. “Clubs, especially since the pandemic, have been looking for ways to diversify their digital strategy whilst allowing them to maximise their revenue generating potential. Until now there has been no choice but to distribute content for free via social media or to invest heavily in their own OTT solution. Recast now offers choice, flexibility and benefits for both fans and rights holders.”

As part of a wider strategy, Red Star Belgrade Rugby League Club will expand their offering via the Rugby League itself and will aim to offer live matches across the League.

Unlike other platforms, rugby fans will be able to turn their viewership into Recast’s in-app credits simply by signing up, watching adverts, sharing videos and inviting friends. The in-app credits can then be used to watch their favourite match highlights, behind-the-scenes videos and interviews at a subsidised rate or even free of charge.

Recast is already working with several high-profile rights holders and bodies – including golf’s European Tour, Manchester City FC, Table Tennis England and most recently the European Cricket Network and Queens Park Rangers FC.
