Netflix is rolling out Profile Transfer, a feature that lets people using someone else’s account to transfer a profile — thus keeping the personalised recommendations, viewing history, My List, saved games, and other settings — if they decide to start their own membership.
The new feature is being rolled out immediately and users will be notified via email as soon as Profile Transfer becomes available to their account.
To transfer a profile, users can go to the new ‘Transfer Profile’ option that appears when they hover over their profile icon in the dropdown menu on the homepage — then simply follow the instructions. Users can turn off Profile Transfer in their account settings at any time.
“People move. Families grow. Relationships end. But throughout these life changes, your Netflix experience should stay the same […] No matter what’s going on, let your Netflix profile be a constant in a life full of changes so you can sit back, relax and continue watching right from where you left off,” Timi Kosztin, Product Manager, Product Innovation at Netflix, said in a blog post.
It is the latest move for Netflix as it continues to focus its push on stopping password sharing.
