Japan: Asian Professional Baseball on Prime Video

October 4, 2023

Prime Video has announced it will livestream all of the Samurai Japan games in the Asian Professional Baseball Championship 2023 at Tokyo Dome, starting with the opening game between Japan and Chinese Taipei on November 16th.

Prime members in Japan will be able to exclusively watch the Asian Professional Baseball Championship 2023 at no additional cost to their membership.

The 2023 World Baseball Classic, which livestreamed on Prime Video in March, set streaming records in Japan, becoming the most watched piece of content in a single day on the service since it launched in the country in 2015.

Now, the new Samurai Japan is ready to kick off its journey to become champion again in the Asia Professional Baseball Championship 2023. Prime Video will livestream this new journey of Samurai Japan team and their new manager, Hirokazu Ibata, who provided commentary for Prime Video’s 2023 World Baseball Classic. His leadership will be one of the highlights of the first game.

“We are excited to be exclusively streaming the very first game of Samurai Japan, managed by Ibata-san, in the Asia Professional Baseball Championship 2023 on Prime Video,” said Takashi Kodama, country director of Prime Video Japan. “The 2023 World Baseball Classic was one of the highlights of the year, and brought excitement to many people. And there are many expectations for the new Samurai Japan, which is once again moving toward becoming the world’s No. 1 team. We cannot wait to see how strong they will be as the WBC champion team and what kind of evolution will begin. Prime Video is very much looking forward to supporting the new Samurai Japan led by manager Ibata by providing a splendid commentary team and cast. Please stay tuned for more casting announcements.”

“Thank you very much for allowing me to commentate on the 2023 World Baseball Classic on Prime Video. I am very happy to hear that Prime Video will be streaming my first game as manager of Samurai Japan top team,” said Hirokazu Ibata. “We are aiming to win the Asia Professional Baseball Championship, so I hope that many fans and newcomers alike will enjoy the games and support the team, not only at the stadium but also on Prime Video.”
