57 countries improve Netflix speeds in Jan

February 13, 2024

Netflix reports that 46 per cent of Internet Service Providers (ISPs) increased their speed by 0.2 Mbps and 52 per cent stayed the same, resulting in a higher average speed in January 2024 on the Netflix ISP Speed Index – a monthly update on which ISPs provide the best prime time Netflix streaming experience.

Twenty-eight countries and regions were in the top performance tier for January: Australia, the UK, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Hong Kong, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Israel, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Panama, Paraguay, Portugal, Romania, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand and the US all registered an average speed of 3.2 Mbps.

Even though there were no significant ISP gains or notable changes to country averages, 57 per cent of countries moved up 0.2 Mbps this month. Six ISPs saw noticeable drops since December’s results. Algar Cable/DSL in Brazil and inter in Venezuela fell from 2.4 to 2.2 Mbps. Netplus Broadband in India dropped from 2.8 to 2.6 Mbps, and PK in Pakistan decreased from 2.0 to 1.8 Mbps. Entel in Chile fell from 2.6 to 2.4 Mbps, and Softbank-DSL in Japan dropped from 3.0 to 2.8 Mbps.
