Nominees for this year’s Oscars have been told that appearing at the ceremony via Zoom will not be an option.
In a letter to nominees, published by Deadline, the show’s producers said they had gone to “great lengths” to ensure the safety of those in attendance.
The letters read: “For those of you unable to attend because of scheduling or continued uneasiness about travelling, we want you to know there will not be an option to Zoom in for the show […] We are going to great lengths to provide a safe and enjoyable evening for all of you in person, as well as for all the millions of film fans around the world, and we feel the virtual thing will diminish those efforts.”
The event will also include on-site Covid-19 testing.
The 93rd Academy Awards are due to take place on April 25th in Los Angeles and will be produced Steven Soderbergh, Stacey Sher and Jesse Collins. Heavily tipped movies include Netflix’s Mank and The Trial of the Chicago 7, Amazon’s Borat Subsequent Moviefilm, and Nomadland which will soon stream on Disney+.
