Report: ‘Adult content will save VR’
August 23, 2021
The VR adult content market will grow from $716 million (€610.2m) in 2021 to $19 billion in 2026 – representing 22 per cent of the global digital adult content value – predicts a report by Juniper Research.
The report says that subscription services will generate revenue from VR content and will benefit from the expected growth of headset ownership. It predicts 97 per cent of the total VR adult market will be derived from subscriptions, with channels relying on this model to recover the increased cost of producing and providing VR content.
The report, Digital Adult Content: Key Monetisaton Models, Emerging Technologies & Market Forecasts 2021-2026, recommends that mainstream adult content platforms, such as Pornhub and XVideos, form strategic partnerships with specialist VR content providers in order to diversify their libraries of adult content and ensure more consistent revenue streams.
Juniper Research forecast the global number of viewers of VR adult content via compatible headsets will rise by 2,800 per cent over the next five years, with headset adoption primarily driven by mainstream use cases, such as digital games and media.
The report notes: “The US will emerge as a key market for VR adult content; accounting for 33 per cent of market spend by 2026. Adult content channels targeting US users must use advanced analytics to monitor viewing habits and trends; tailoring VR-enabled content accordingly.”
