In Italy, TV series are more popular than movies on streaming services, according to the GfK VOD Tracker.

The first research that measures the most consumed titles on VoD platforms in Italy found that 67 per cent of total viewing time was dedicated to TV series, compared to 33 per cent for movies.

In the three months between June and August 2023, there were an average of 27.4 million users of VoD platforms; with a peak of 29.9 million users in June.

On a monthly basis, there were approximately 283 million views of VoD content, with an average of 258 million hours spent watching or 9 hours per month per user.

The most accessed VoD platforms in the period June-August 2023 were Netflix with an average of 15.7 million users, followed by Prime Video (12.2 million) and Disney+ (5.9 million).

GfK VOD Tracker data also shows that women are more likely to watch RaiPlay and Mediaset Infinity, while men are more likely to use all other platforms.

Netflix and Disney+ are the platforms with a greater concentration of young viewers, while RaiPlay, Mediaset Infinity, Sky and Infinity+ have more mature viewers.

The survey polled 3,000 people and monitored over 2,000 titles consumed on VoD platforms Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+, RaiPlay, Mediaset-Infinity, Infinity+, Sky on Demand and Now.
